The commune of Choceń is located in the south-eastern part of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the Włocławek poviat. The commune borders with the commune of Włocławek (from the north), with the commune of Kowal (from the east), with the commune of Lubień Kujawski (from the south-east), with the commune of Chodecz (from the south) and with the communes of Boniewo and Lubraniec (from the west). The total area of the commune is 99.87 km2, which is 6.77% of the entire Włocławek poviat and 0.56% of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian voivodship.

The commune's seat is the village of Choceń, while its basic function is agriculture. In the internal administrative division, the commune is divided into 28 village units with 37 localities.

Geographically, the commune is located in Kujawy. The main river of the commune is the Lubieńka River, the Chodeczka River also flows through the commune. In the Commune of Choceń, forests cover an area of 180.47 ha and constitute 1.8% of the commune's area. The largest forest complex is located in the eastern part of the commune, around Lutoborskie Lake. The second very important element of the commune's vegetation are the former manor parks with court complexes from the 18th and 19th centuries.

An important element of the cultural heritage of the commune is six court complexes entered into the register of monuments. Picturesque lakes with a total area of 358 ha are also an important tourist and recreational factor. The largest of them is Borzymowskie Lake covering an area of 209 ha. In addition, the commune includes the Ługowskie, Krukowskie and Szczutkowskie lakes, as well as the Lutoborskie lake surrounded by forests. The greater part of the area around the lakes has been transformed into recreational and tourist plots. In this way, the municipality gained in terms of future tourist development by creating favorable conditions for agritourism.

Location and transport accessibility

The Choceń commune is located in a communication system favorable for its economic development:

  1. A1 motorway - Amber highway - Kowal highway junction - 6 km, Włocławek Zachód highway junction - 10 km.
  2. National road No. 91 - GP class national road connecting Gdańsk, Tczew, Toruń, Łódź, Piotrków Trybunalski, Radomsko and Częstochowa runs a short distance from the commune borders. It runs through the following voivodships: Pomeranian, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Łódź and Silesian.
  3. The provincial road 269 Kowal - Szczerkowo runs through the commune (10 tons per axle).
  4. Railway line No. 18 Kutno - Piła Główna - an electrified two-track railway line.

Choceń is the main educational center in the commune .The access to all schools located in Choceń is provided by running free transport of school buses.

Inhabitants of Choceń and the surroundings have the option of placing their youngest children in a Non-public Kindergarten (currently, i.e. in 2017, 109 children attend the kindergarten, which means an increase by 68% compared to 2009).

At the Janusz Korczak Primary School in Choceń 488 students are currently studying. In 1999 was built the John Paul II Lower Secondary School in Choceń, whose modern building was put into use in 2002, and now due to the education reform it has been included in the structure of the primary school. The facility was equipped with a canteen and in 2009 a sports hall was opened, which enriched cultural and educational offer of Choceń. The facility is adapted to play team games at the national level, it has changing rooms for 100 people and school auditorium for 254 people. In the same building, there is the Adam Mickiewicz Basic Vocational School and Stefan Wyszyński High School. The secondary school and vocational school are run by the Association of Culture, Education and Promotion of the Choceń Commune. In the 2016/2017 51 students attended high school, 107 students attended vocational school and 52 adults in extramural high school.

Sports and recreation grounds have been modernized at schools. The modernization consisted in the construction of sports fields for football, volleyball, handball and basketball, execution and installation of the stage and stage lighting, marking the pitch, making a pavement from concrete cobblestones, fencing mesh and carpet grass. Thanks to this, it is possible to organize various types of communal? events, such as harvest festivals and festivities. Modernized pitches are available not only for children and teenagers attending the local lower secondary school, but for everyone interested.

In Choceń, there is located sports club "Unia Choceń". The Choceń Table Tennis League is organized, whose main goal is to popularize the game of table tennis, which has long been one of the leading disciplines in the commune.
